I cannot listen to a .ul file. What can I do to play it back?

I have had an issue where a .ul file was placed into the Purgatory folder. If it never becomes playable within Chronicall how can I still listen to that recording?

Answer

You will need to use a third-party application called Audacity and have its Import settings configured properly.

Steps

1. Download and install Audacity
   • NOTE: Xima Software makes no guarantees as to the functionality of the Audacity product. It is third-party software and is therefore not supported by Xima Software or its support staff
2. Open the Audacity software
3. Navigate to File > Import > Raw Data...
   
   
   
   
4. Select the following settings:
   • Encoding: U-law
   • Byte order: Little-endian
   • Channels: 1 Channel (Mono)
   • Start offset: 0 bytes
   • Amount to import: 100 %
   • Sample Rate: 8000 Hz
     
     
     
     
5. Click the Import button
6. You will now be able to listen to the recording and Export it into another audio format if needed.
   • To Export simply do the following
     
     1. Navigate to File > Export > Export as WAV
        
        
        
        
     2. Select a download location and file name
        
        • You may need to change the Format Options > Encoding to U-Law
          
          
          
          
     3. Select Save
